What will we be learning?

Each week, you will learn a specific set of skills for both beginners and more advanced embroiderers with a focus on completing (yes - actually finishing!) beautiful projects using my style of stitching and colour-work.

Here’s more detail on what is covered in the course.

  • Course overview, your tools and materials.
    Learn about the types of fabrics you can use for embroidery, different kinds of threads as well as using a hoop, needle and transfer papers.

  • Transferring sampler pattern and starting your first stitches.
    Learn how to transfer a pattern using the tracing method and how to choose where to place it. Learn your first three outline stitches.

  • Learning the rest of your stitches and finishing the sampler.
    Learn and become comfortable with all the stitches of the sampler. Learn the best ways to start and finish and how to move from one design element to another to save time.

  • Transferring your project pattern and stitching the design.
    Learn how to transfer a pattern using carbon transfer paper which becomes very useful for many future projects. Learn how to apply your newly learned stitches to the project pattern, learn about using colour in embroidery and selecting your colours.

  • Finishing your embroidery and sewing your project.
    Learn how to apply the rest of your stitches to your project, make changes to colours and stitches and finally sew your finished project into a usable item!

 
 

How does it work?

You will learn all about fabric, threads and tools and then follow along with me to complete a sampler which takes you through 12 of the most versatile stitches.

Then you’ll take that knowledge and your newly acquired skills and apply them to an actual embroidery project. You will stitch a bird pattern, learn how to select colours and stitches and how to make changes to a pattern if you’d like to alter it.

Then your bird design will be turned into a beautiful drawstring bag. So you will not only have a finished embroidery project but you’ll have a beautiful had made item which you can use and enjoy and be proud of!

A: Yes! You will have access to this course for life once you register. It will always live here on my website and you can do it now or later, you can finish it quickly or slowly at your own pace. The course will be removed from sale after the 21st April 2023 but you will always have access to it.

Q: Will you be covering how to choose colours?
A: Yes! In fact, you’ll get my book, “Colour Theory Guide for Embroiderers” as a bonus!

Q: I’m an absolute beginner. Will this course be suitable for me?
A: Definitely, yes. It’s designed to get you started. It’s also great for more experienced stitchers who want to learn some shortcuts and those who want to learn my style and colour work.

Q: I learned how to embroider years ago, would this course still benefit me?
A: Only if you’d like to learn a new and more relaxed (and forgiving) way of stitching! I’ve had many students who shared their frustrations at certain stitches or told me stories of how their teacher/grandmother/nun told them to unpick everything because it was too messy and they just don’t enjoy embroidery. My teaching is relaxed, we embrace imperfection and the look of the hand made, but I also show you various methods to make stitches easier to apply, especially the satin stitch! You’ll be surprised at how much you can learn when you move away from strict rules.

Q: Do I have to complete everything in the 5 weeks or can I take longer?
A: You can take as long as you like. You have access to all the course material forever!

Q: Is this course online or in-person?
A: This is an online course with videos and downloadable PDF patterns and workbooks.

Q: Does this course include materials?
A: No, because I do encourage people to use what they already have. You do not need to have the exact same colours of fabric and threads as me. In the course you will learn about fabrics and threads and colours. PLUS so many people already have stashes of fabric and threads at home! You can use any linen or cotton fabric you have and any colours of threads you have access to. Don’t worry, I will tell you exactly what you will need and what you can get away with if you can’t get the same materials as me.
